Insulation on expensive double entry doors is worthless

Purchased doors 2018. Cheap insulation material that is glued on to door falls off. This is 2nd time and for a 2" piece of plastic junk they want to charge me for a service call or $10 to mail it to me. Also they say it could take 20 days to get the part. Customer service says they understand how I feel. They don't. I told them they should be embarassed to work for Pella. I opted for the hardware story and a substitute rather than do business with them again. I highly recommended that you avoid these expensive, poorly made products that Pella sells. Doors without insulation are worth nothing.

I bought 9 replacement windows (4 being mullioned double windows).

I made it the 5th window before I finally saw one with the screw holes drilled properly. The first 4 were all drilled straight through both layers of vinyl.

The fifth one, only the two in the bottom half of the window were drilled correctly through the top layer with the bottom layer in tact to hold the screw in place.

I still have yet to come across one where the horizontal muntins (I believe is the correct term) weren't cut about 1/8th inch too long.

We paid extra for the auto closing locks as well. They don't work for crap on double hung windows, so save your money. Pella also installed them like they whoever was doing it was blind, drunk, or both. So far half of them hit the notched out vinyl on one side or the other.

Then the locking mechanisms...

one came with the plastic cover broken as soon as we unwrapped it that I still have to submit a warranty claim for. But almost none of them are even centered enough to work properly. I know, you're thinking "Just shift them over, the screw holes are slotted for exactly this reason." Yeah... If they had put literally any effort into centering the screws in the slots so they could be shifted.

Every single one of them have the screws on opposite sides preventing any adjustment.

Luckily, I'll probably be selling the house in the next few months so I won't have to deal with these windows too long. But this is the first, and most likely last, time I'll ever buy a Pella window. I've never spent so much on trash in my life. We even opted for the 250 "Mid-grade" series to try and avoid these problems on the lower grade series.

At this point, I assume if we would've gotten the lower grade windows...

We probably wouldn't been shipped all the pieces 'with assembly required', which honestly probably would have given me a better product than what I received.

0/10 - garbage.

I didn't take pictures of the mounting holes. But here are a couple of the locks and the muntins.

PELLA SERVICE & PRODUCTS ARE 2ND TO NONE!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We have used Pella Windows and Doors for decades! Every house we have owned had Pella products and Pella Service people were so great to come out yearly and perform a "Tune-Up" on our windows and doors to keep them working well.

Recently we decided that our 40 year old Log Cabin was feeling very drafty even after replacing the furnaces and AC Units. We decided to Replace All of our 40 year old Pella Windows and doors. We cannot believe the difference. No more drafty cold areas.

Pella Sales Rep Zach knew exactly what we needed. He worked with the installers Jim & Nathan and got us scheduled. We're laughing because today is October 12 and they have beautifully finished the job on the same day they were scheduled to start the 2 week installation. Pella Products are Exceptional.

Sales Rep knew exactly how to provide us correct products to install. The Installers were Professional, Neat and Clean and with little or no disturbance to our home furnishings.

Thank you Pella! I would give you 25 Stars if they would let me!

Plus they offered 24 payments same as cash!

Warm Regards,

Rick & Katherine

Service pricing exorbitant

As shared in original accounting, after balking at original obscene price to replace several wheels on bottom of the Pella slider (a 20 min. job), and only having $60 shaved off a $400.00 bill, I wrote to the Pella Corp.

Headquarters in Seattle. After they notified me...

Original review Sep 20, 2023
We had a very nice and experienced service Tech come out to replace a couple of sets of wheels in the bottom of our wood slider. He told us he didnt have price for parts and that office would contact us for payment.

We found this odd due to his years with company, but of course said ok. We got a message left on our phone the next day from office saying we owed them $400.00. I was sure I heard wrong on the message. You see, the tech took 20 minutes to do the actual job and I mean how many wheels could it take 2?

4? When I called the lady said $400.00. I asked if the wheels were pure gold or platinum. I also told her that for a few wheels and 20 min.

of labor that I felt they were gouging us and that we were seniors, besides. She nonchalantly said oh we just charge by the job. After more protests she managed to allow us a $60 dollar discount on parts and labor.
If you do the math for the labor if it were by the hour the $180 charged would work out too well over $300.00 pr. hr.

The parts were $220.00.
She took $60 off the parts finally. I begrudgingly paid. Now Im thinking I should not have yet. The more I think on it, the more angry I get.

Im thinking of all the people doing business with them being taken advantage of. I put a complaint in with BBB but am seriously considering the Washington Autornney General as well (this was the Spokane Washington store). I should have found a private contractor in retrospect, but last time we had them do the same repair, it only cost ever so slightly over $100.00, so I expected only slightly more this time around.

My mistake. Beware of their pricing.

Very helpful and kind customer service rep

Pella - Very helpful and kind customer service rep
Ordered window and didn't have an extension jamb with it. The window was measured and ordered by Guncon. Very frustrating as all the other replacement windows and patio doors came with proper jamb dimensions. Client very frustrated by how long everything is taking. To complete the project in timely fashion, we are going to install a flexible jamb and hope for the best.

Subject: never buy from pella windows

Never will I buy from Pella Windows again. It wanted me to sign a written waiver of my right to bring a civil action in court for any defect in Pella's windows To add insult to injury, it wanted me to pay Pella's attorney's fees in the event I asked for Arbitration and lost.

Pella wanted to make sure that I was on the total downside and could lose my shirt doing business with it.

andersen windows is now almost as bad

I have contacted Pella in Pella Iowa and it has shown no interest whatsoever about my complaint. It did not matter to them that I had previously bought Pella casement windows for the front of my 2 story home and wanted to buy for the rear of my home if Pella became more reasonable in price and did not insist on me waiving my rights

1 Year and the job still isn't done!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Pella Windows and Doors may boast about the quality of their products and the expertise of their installers, but their project coordination and communication leave much to be desired. While their windows and doors may be top-notch, their ability to manage a project is anything but.

The project coordination was an absolute disaster.

When problems arose during the installation, Pella's communication was utterly unhelpful. It was like pulling teeth to get a straight answer or any semblance of accountability.

The frustration reached its peak when we tried to reach out to their customer service department.

Our complaints fell on deaf ears, and we were left feeling like nothing more than an inconvenience.

While their products may be of decent quality, Pella's inability to effectively manage a project and communicate with customers tarnishes any positive aspect of their company. Pella Windows and Doors have failed to live up to their promises, and we will never make the mistake of dealing with them again.

I bought two windows in October 2022 and my install date was estimated to be in January 2023, after several calls they finally got my windows in March and they came without the screens, after I questioned them the installer said that someone would bring the screens next week after my post inspection, after that week goes by I called and have been lied to ever since with the quote "She's in a meeting but I'll give her the message and she'll call you back", well its May and I still haven't got the callback or my screens! Once you sign that contract they are done with you, I'll NEVER RECOMMEND THEM IN A POSITIVE WAY OR EVER SPEND MY MONEY WITH PELLA EVER AGAIN!!!

Hourly labor price

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We are having a couple of warranty items fixed on our Pella sliding glass door. It costed us $90 for them to do a VIRTUAL inspection. That $90 does not go toward the repair cost. The replacement parts are covered, so they're "free". The installation will cost us $195/hour, and they told us this requires 2 technicians. SO, our "under warranty" repair job is costing us $555.50. That is absolutely ridiculous!!

Bad service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Needed a replacement latch assembly for my storm door. Phoned the local dealer and the office lady said hey would have to order it. The next day, I drove across town with the old latch to make sure we ordered the right part. On arrival, I was told they would have to make a serviced call and refused to order the part. Of course, the unneeded service call would quadruple the cost of the repair. This made my trip across town a wild goose trip for nothing.

Do not buy from Pella Windows and Doors they have yet to properly install our doors. We ordered them last June!!! The doors arrived at the warehouse in October. The *** installation is a joke. Started the end of November. Continued in December. They then demanded full payment without completion. They promised to be here January 31. They still havent come. They arent wind or waterproof! So we have a brand new home being ruined by pella.
